A 2-2 night on Thursday moved my betting record to 39-25 on the season. The Yankees lost their fourth game in a row, and combined with the Rays win, dropped their lead in the AL East to 8 games. Meanwhile the Mets continued to roll but didn’t make up any ground in the NL wild card, staying a game and a half back. At NY Betting News, we look at three different baseball games each day and provide you with three free picks (with the occasional bonus pick) with at least one being a New York team. Here are today’s suggested bets using the latest odds from DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook.
New York Yankees at Los Angeles Dodgers
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: LAD -153
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: LAD -155
A possible World Series preview begins Friday night in Los Angeles when baseball’s two best records face off. The Yankees come in clearly limping, losing four in a row and just getting swept at the hands of the A’s. The Dodgers, on the other side of things, have won 9 of their last 10 at Dodgers Stadium and send up the best pitcher in all of baseball statistically, Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-3, 1.64). The Yankees will counter with James Paxton (9-6, 4.53) who has given up four or more earned runs in three of his last six starts. Clearly, the pitching matchup favors the Dodgers in this one, as well as the overall momentum. The good news for the pinstripes is Ryu is coming off one of his worst starts of the year, giving up four earned runs in a losing effort in Atlanta. The bad news? Ryu has given up just two earned runs in his last 57 innings at Dodgers Stadium. 2 runs in 57 innings! That’s hard to ignore. I’ll take the Dodgers to win the first game of the series.
Atlanta Braves at New York Mets -1
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: NYM -1 (-126)
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: NYM -1 (-130)
A double New York special for you today. A second huge series for New York’s other team, the Mets, as they host the NL East leading Atlanta Braves in what could be an opportunity for the Mets to get back in the division race despite being nine back. The Mets are soaring, going 21-5 the second half of the season and coming off a sweep of the Indians. Helping them in the first game of the series is they get to send Jacob deGrom (8-7, 2.61) to the mound who has been nothing short of spectacular in recent appearances. deGrom has won his last four decisions and has seen his E.R.A. steadily decline the last two months as he has given up 0 or 1 runs in six of his last seven starts. The Braves will go with Mike Foltynewicz (4-5, 6.09) who has failed to go more than six innings in a game all year. While the season series is tied at 6-6 and deGrom is 1-2 against the Braves this year, a lot of those numbers have to be put aside since both the Mets and Braves are different teams than those who faced early in the year. I like the Mets to keep riding their hot streak behind deGrom’s arm. I’ll take the Mets and the -1 run spread.
Los Angeles Angels at Houston Astros -2
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Hou -2 (-109)
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: Hou -2 (-113)
The Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Angels to begin a three game series at Minute Maid Park. The Angels have struggled since the All-Star Break and are 9-20 in their last 29 games. They also face a tough pitching matchup on Friday to try and get back on track. The Angles will send up Jose Suarez (2-4, 6.75), who has lost his last three decisions, while the Astros counter with one of baseball’s best, Zack Grienke (13-4, 2.84), who has already tallied up three wins in four starts with the Astros. The Astros have struggled a bit of late but still own the AL’s best home record at 46-16 and are 14-2 in their last 16 home games. They are also 6-3 against the Angels so far this year. Given the numbers, I like the Astros to win here by at least two or more runs.
