A perfect 3-0 Saturday improved my betting record to 30-17 this year. Both the Yankees and Mets came away winners on Saturday. The Yankees beat the Indians 6-5 while the Mets rallied to beat the Royals 4-1. The win kept the Mets just two games back in the National League wild card race. Each day at NY Betting News, we analyze one New York game and two other contests and provide you with three free picks to place a bet on. Here are today’s sports bets using the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook.
Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees +118
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: NYY +120
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: NYY +118
This is all about value here in this play. The Cleveland Indians are favored as they try to split the series against the Yankees and C.C. Sabathia (5-6, 4.78). The Indians have played the Yankees tough at Yankees Stadium, beating them up on Thursday night and then losing by just one run Friday and Saturday. Things seem good for them today as they send Mike Clevinger (7-2, 3.34) to the hill who is 6-0 in his last seven starts. The tough part is going to be winning in New York. The Yankees own one of MLB’s best home records at 49-19 and have won 11 of their last 12 at home. This will be Sabathia’s first start in August and is coming off a rough outing in his only start against the Indians this year, giving up four runs in five innings in the loss. Still, if you’re going to give me the Yankees plus-money at home, I’m going to jump on it. They should never be underdog at home and I’m going to take advantage of the value. I’ll go with the Yankees to take the win.
Houston Astros at Oakland Athletics UNDER 9.5 runs
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: UNDER 9.5 runs (-110)
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: UNDER 9.5 runs (-109)
The Oakland Athletics will look for the sweep at home against the Houston Astros today, a rare feat against the Astros that illustrates the hot play of the A’s of late. Two strong pitchers head to the mound this afternoon as Zack Greinke (12-4, 2.91) looks to win his third start in a row as he faces off against Brett Anderson (10-8, 3.95). While two of the three games have had double-digit run totals thus far, both pitchers come in with solid form. Anderson hasn’t given up more than three runs in six of his last seven starts, while Grienke has been pitching like Greinke. He’s given up no more than two runs in six of his last seven outings. A pitcher’s duel could be on the docket today in what should be an intense game as the A’s try and pull within 5.5 games of the AL West leaders. While I think Houston avoids the sweep with a win, this has 4-3 or 3-2 written all over it, despite the Astros bats. I’ll take the under 9.5 runs.
St. Louis Cardinals -162 at Cincinnati Reds
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: STL -160
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: STL -162
The Cardinals will look to split the series in Cincinnati on Sunday as they send one of baseball’s most dangerous pitchers to the hill. Jack Flaherty (6-6, 3.52) looks to move in on history as he’s gone three straight starts (21 total innings) without giving up an earned run and striking out 26. Despite a tough series thus far, St. Louis has still won six of their last eight games and are 7-6 against the Reds this year. Cincinnati will send Alex Wood (1-1, 5.59) to the mound to try and win the series and close within 5.5 games of the NL Central leading Cards. I hate betting against the Reds because they are one of those dangerous teams that can play up to anyone, but you can’t ignore Flaherty’s performances of late. In 11 innings vs. the Reds this year, Flaherty has not given up a run. I’ll go with the Cardinals and the win.
