Yesterday was ugly for me. I was due for an 0-3 day, and I got it. I still carry a 23-15 record into tonight’s games and a 21-9 record ATS. Yesterday, the Yankees finished off the sweep of the Orioles with a 6-5 victory, finishing the season with 16 straight wins over the Orioles, an incredible feat that the Yankees had never accomplished before. Meanwhile, the Braves handed the Mets their third straight loss with a 6-4 victory. Every day here at NY Betting News, we give you insight on three MLB games and advise you who to place a bet on, including one New York team. We use odds from FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook. Here are today’s sports bets.
New York Mets at Atlanta Braves -124
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Atl -120
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: Atl -124
The Atlanta Braves will go for the three-game sweep tonight against the New York Mets as they try to put a stranglehold on the NL East. This will be Marcus Stroman’s (0-0, 6.10) first appearance against the Braves since joining the Mets. In his two starts with the Mets, Stroman has impressed with 12 total strikeouts but has also given up seven runs over 10 innings. The Braves will counter with one of their top starters, Julio Tehran (7-7, 3.35), who has won his last two decisions and is 1-1 against the Mets this year. Atlanta has won six of their last eight contests and have won six of their last seven at home against the Mets. The Braves currently lead the division by six games on the Nationals and are 10 ahead of the Mets. In the wild card race, the Mets sit three games back of the Cubs for the last wild card spot. I will go with the Braves tonight to continue their strong play against the Mets and expand their lead on them in the division.
Chicago Cubs at Philadelphia Phillies +128
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Phi +133
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: Phi +128
The Chicago Cubs will try to right the ship today as they conclude a road-trip against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs have been reeling away from Wrigley Field, not just losing both games in Philadelphia, but losing four of their last five on the road and owning one of the NL’s worst away records at 23-37. The Phillies, on the other hand, have the NL’s fourth-best home record, going 36-26, and are battling with the Cubs for the last wild card. The Phillies currently sit just two games back of the Cubs for the last wild card spot and hope to cut into that even more today. The Phillies will send Drew Smyly (1-1, 3.80) to the mound, making his first start against the Cubs. Yu Darvish (4-6, 4.43) will go tonight for the Cubs, who has lost two of his last three starts. Winners of three straight in the series, I like the Phillies with the value here of winning more money than you put down, especially against a Cubs team that just seems lost away from their home field. Give me the Phillies for the sweep tonight.
Los Angeles Dodgers OVER 4.5 runs at Miami Marlins
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: OVER 4.5 (-122)
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: OVER 4.5 (-120)
For the Miami Marlins, August has been a complete disaster thus far, and being at home hasn’t made much of a difference. The Marlins are 2-10 in their last 12 games and their pitching has given up at least five runs in 11 of those 12 contests. Meanwhile, the Dodgers come in 9-1 in their last 10 games and have scored 33 runs over their last three games, including a nine-run and 15-run performance in the series thus far. The Marlins will do their best to hold the Dodgers at bay this afternoon by sending arguably their best starter, Caleb Smith (7-6, 3.71), to the mound to face-off against Walker Buehler (10-2, 3.08). This is a very low over/under, mainly because of the pitching matchup, but Smith is more prone to have a bad game. I like the Dodgers to win, but there’s not as much value there. However, I do think L.A. can get at least five runs, even against Smith who gave up six runs over four innings in his last start. Give me the Dodgers to score OVER 4.5 runs.
